Accordian Shutters

Accordion shutters, often referred to as folding shutters, are the preferred product for hurricane protection. There are four main reasons why accordion shutters are preferred over other hurricane protection products which are convenience, strength, security, and affordability.

Accordion shutters are one of the simplest shutters to deploy. They are permanently attached to the home and are always ready to use unlike storm panels which have to be put up and taken down for each storm. Accordion shutters have two stacks of aluminum blades which slide together, one stack is pulled from the left side and one stack is pulled from the right side to meet and lock in the middle of the shutter or all the way to one side of the opening. When you want to disengage the shutter simply unlock them from the middle or side and slide each stack back to its original position. When not in use each stack is positioned to the left and right of the opening so as not to obstruct the view from inside. An entire house can be opened or closed by one individual in less than 10 minutes.

Many residents will have accordion shutters installed on their patio or lanai so that when a storm threatens they do not have to move all of their patio and lawn furniture into their home. This allows them to enjoy their home as they normally would throughout the duration of the storm, as opposed to having a living room crowded with lawn chairs, picnic tables and barbeque grills. Being able to quickly fortify your patio and not having to move your lawn items can save valuable hurricane preparation time and is definitely a convenient way to protect your home.

Due to the fact that the accordion shutter is such a convenient form of hurricane protection it also lends itself to be an easy form of home security protection as well. Accordion shutters have a keyed lock so before any trip you can simply walk around your home, lock your accordions and drive away knowing that your home is secure. Since they are so easy to open and close they're perfect protection for both long and short trips.

When it comes to strength accordion shutters are the strongest hurricane protection on the market. They are even stronger than roll-up shutters and yet they are half the price. There are very few moving parts in an accordion shutter which results in minimal wear and tear and very low maintenance. Accordion shutters are not as economical as the storm panels, however many customers who have upgraded from panels to accordions would agree that the benefits far outweigh the additional cost, making the accordion shutter the preferred hurricane protection product.
